Kinder kicken für Kinder

"Would you rather go on foot or cycle, then?" No, this question doesn't veil a rhetorical threat! However, it did lead to 3,260 euros changing hands in August 2008, in the form of a cheque handed over by Detlev Höhner to Andreas Edelstein, director of the 'Kinder kicken für Kinder' association (KKFK/Kids Kicking for Kids) and a large number of children from the association.

So how was this question converted into cash? In spring 2008, Murtfeldt employees Heike Thurau and Norbert Wodarz posed this question in order to motivate around 250 of their colleagues at the Brackel-based company Murtfeldt Kunststoffe to get sporty for the greater good. It worked like this: For each kilometre that an employee ran or cycled, the CEO would contribute a certain amount of money to the Kids Kicking for Kids association.

As always, Murtfeldt employees rose to the challenge: A large number of Murtfeldt workers broke into a sweat to help others by taking part in the fun run/road race in Kamen in May while many others participated in an organized bike ride through the eastern part of the Ruhr district in June. As in previous years, the campaign was a great success.

In the words of Rainer Nölle, principal chairman of Kids Kicking for Kids, "the support we get from Murtfeldt is simply fantastic. Without Murtfeldt, our association would probably have already been forced to cease activity." For six years, Murtfeldt - in the form of Detlev Höhner with the enthusiastic assistance of a number of employees - has been supporting Kids Kicking for Kids, which works with the young people's division of SC Husen-Kurl 1919/28 e.V. to help children to get some exercise in these times of fast food and computer games. Another important goal of Kids Kicking for Kids is to bring healthy and disabled children together in an attempt to break down social barriers at an early age.

"I believe that it is important for both companies and individual employees to play an active part in society" says CEO Detlev Höhner, explaining the reasons behind the campaign. "Naturally, I also encourage employees to get involved in sport because it does the company good, too. And last but not least, sporting events promote mutual cooperation and help to build a sense of belonging."
